Lake Placid Vs. Anaconda

Robert Englund, Yancy Butler, and Corin Nemec star in Lake Placid vs. Anaconda, a crossover film featuring the crocodiles and anacondas from two popular film franchises. With Lake Placid vs. Anaconda now available on DVD, we caught up with the film's screenwriter, Berkeley Anderson.

Lake Placid vs. Anaconda

Technically, it should be The Crocodile From Lake Placid Vs. Anaconda (But Not The One From The First Movie Because It Died), but try fitting that on a poster. The Lake Placid series began with a pretty entertaining movie, starring Bridget Fonda, Bill Pullman and Betty White, about a giant crocodile terrorising a quiet lake and all those who lived around it. It spawned three less entertaining sequels. The Anaconda series began with an absolutely terrible movie, starring Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight and Ice Cube, about a giant snake that killed people for over-acting or something. It spawned three sequels the made the first film look better.

Just look at him. He can't be good news. He's hunting the legendary giant, 40-foot anaconda. He offers to guide the film crew to the tribe, presumably with fingers crossed behind his back. They agree, and instead he takes them into Snake Territory.

Lake Placid Vs. Anaconda is a 2015 horror movie crossover between Lake Placid and Anaconda), being the fifth entry in both respective franchises. The plot involves a giant anaconda treated with the Blood Orchid serum from the previous films being crossbred with a giant crocodile. When both creatures escape into the local community, it's up to the sheriff and a croc hunter to stop them both before they destroy the entire town. Yancy Butler and Robert Englund reprise their roles from the previous two Lake Placid films and are joined by Corin Nemec, Stephen Billington and Skye Lourie.

  • Alpha Bitch: Tiffani. Although Murdoch also portrays shades of this. They are at the point where its noticed by those around them.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Jim is missing an arm, a leg, and an eye from being attacked by a crocodile in the last movie.

  • Asshole Victim: Tiffani sets herself up as a likely victim every single second she's on screen. She bullies her sorority pledges even during the monster attacks. She pushes her Beta Bitch Amber at the crocodiles to distract them from her and claimed that she tried to save Amber but failed. She cares more about the destruction of her car than any of the deaths. She even makes Cassie run back to Jennifer's car to hide from the crocodiles instead of letting her into Tiffani's car when she's standing right in front of the door because "I don't like your bikini." She does indeed get eaten, and no one is the least bit sorry.

  • Earl Sr. is a smarmy poacher who kills a deer out of season (and helps his son kill another), lies shamelessly when confronted by a Fish & Wildlife agent, and then sets out to poach yet another deer within hours of being ticketed for his last act of poaching.

  • Autopsy Snack Time: The coroner eats his lunch while describing the mangled crocodile victim, and even uses a fried chicken wing to demonstrate how one of the victim's limbs was severed. The cops do not take him up on his offer to share.

  • Big Bad Ensemble: The two primary antagonists are the Anaconda and the Crocodiles as the title suggests (although there are multiple crocs, while there is a primary female Anaconda), however, we also have Alpha Bitch Tiffani and Sarah Murdoch, who is responsible for most of the events and wants to get her Anaconda back at all costs (even if it means putting the life of her henchmen at risk).

  • Butt-Monkey: Sorority pledge Jane spends almost every moment she's onscreen being insulted by Tiffani, subjected to cruel hazing rituals, or exposed to danger. At one point, Tiffani suggests using her as The Bait, and mockingly justifies this by saying "She was never going to get in [to the sorority] anyway." The only good thing that happens to Jane is that she survives the movie.

  • Continuity Nod: The giant anaconda was created from the Blood Orchid serum mentioned in the previous films.

  • Dangerous Key Fumble: A lost key variant occurs. After the sorority girls who survive the first attack (while most of them are swimming) flee back to their cars, Tiffani and Jennifer realize that they left their keys back on the beach and can't drive anywhere before being surrounded by crocodiles.

  • Daylight Horror: Much of the monster mayhem takes place during the light of day.

  • Destructo-Nookie: The "missing" girl and her boyfriend are just getting into this trope when the violent shaking rouses the crocodile that was snoozing under the bed.

  • Genius Ditz: Jennifer is a panicky, selfie-obsessed sorority girl, but she claims to have gotten a 2,200 SAT score, (although her best friend is skeptical about this claim). Jennifer: I swear, I'm like, a genius.

  • Do Not Go Gentle: Tiffani is probably the least likable person in the movie, but her last action is to defiantly punch the crocodile that's about to eat her.

  • The Dragon: Beach for Murdoch. Amber is this for Tiffani, though she isn't the Big Bad.

  • Eaten Alive: There's an oversized crocodile and a giant mutant snake on the loose. This is to be expected.

  • Eyepatch After Time Skip: Jim Bickerman (Robert Englund) shows up after being attacked by a croc in the last film with one of these.

  • Fanservice: The group of sorority girls caught between both creatures serves as this. Also Daphne(the runaway)in nothing but a thong in the motel room before stripping it off for sex, showing her bare butt as well.

  • Heroic Sacrifice/Mutual Kill: Beach does this with the final anaconda.

  • Hidden Depths: Jennifer and Melissa are both portrayed as unintelligent party girls for the most part, but each of them does risk her life trying to save another girl from being eaten by the crocodiles.

  • I Miss Mom: The only reason Bethany is trying to get into Tiffani's sorority is because her late mother was a member many years ago and she's hoping that it will be a way to honor her.

  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: After witnessing another girl getting constricted by the anaconda while hiding in her car, Alpha Bitch Tiffani appears to be horrified and distraught. Margo: Hey, you did everything someone like you was willing to do. Tiffani: What am I going to tell my dad? He just bought me that car.

  • Karma Houdini: Jim, who survives a crocodile attack and escapes.

  • Noble Top Enforcer: Murdoch's main mercenary, Beach, shows disgust and anger about how Sarah gets several of their companions killed, tries to stop her at one point, and ultimately kills the anaconda.

  • Non-Protagonist Resolver: The eponymous anaconda isn't killed by Reba or Tully, but by Noble Top Enforcer, who pulls the pin on his grenade after being swallowed by the snake.

  • Not Quite Dead: Jim Bickerman was thought to have been killed at the end of the last Lake Placid film. He turns up here alive and ready for payback. He later survives yet another crocodile attack.

  • Offscreen Teleportation: Somehow a croc pops up directly in front of an injured man who's scanning the forest side-to-side for danger.

  • Perky Goth: Margo has several tattoos, wears all black clothing, and is a Snark Knight extraordinaire, but the people she snarks at have it coming, she's a decent friend to Bethany, and she spends most of her screen time smiling before the monsters attack.

  • Pushed at the Monster: A group of sunbathing college girls are getting picked off and eaten by some of the giant crocodiles that are loose at the lake. When trying to figure out what to do, one girl, Tiffani, exclaims "I have an idea!" and shoves the girl next to her into an crocodile's mouth and runs away as her Beta Bitch gets eaten.

  • Rank Up: After being a Game & Fish agent in the last movie, Reba is now The Sheriff of Black Lake. She says that it's because no one else wanted the job anymore.

  • Super-Persistent Predator: Again, the giant croc and the Blood Orchid anaconda.

  • Uncertain Doom: Daphne is attacked along with her boyfriend in a hotel room, but only part of his body is found later on, while none of hers is.

  • During the attack on the cars, Cassie is seen being bitten and dragged away by an alligator, while Jennifer is seen bloody and gasping as the anaconda constricts the SUV she's inside of. Still, (unlike with most victims in either franchise), neither of them is seen actually dying onscreen, and their bodies aren't shown later.

  • Versus Title: Lake Placid vs Anaconda.

  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Several sorority girls who escape from the beach aren't seen when the other girls get trapped back at the cars, including an Asian girl who Tiffani Trolls in an early scene and a blonde girl with sunglasses.

This is mostly a giant crocodile movie - the snakes don't have much to do for the first hour. In the beginning we see some guys in lab coats shooting some crocodile juice into an anaconda, because the pharmaceutical company researchers finally realized that the blood orchid fountain-of-youth serum would work on humans if they created a hybrid with one of their super anacondas. The only compatible reptile species they could find was the monster crocodiles of the Lake Placid series, so they hit the road for the Black Lake crocodile reserve with some of their genetically-engineered anacondas in a mobile lab. They break into the crocodile reserve, catch a giant croc, and shoot up a giant female Anaconda with croc juice so when she lays her eggs they will hatch the hybrid "Crocacondas" needed to make the serum. (You read that right. Crocacondas. That's got to be the next movie! Somebody made Piranhaconda, so why not Crocaconda? Unfortunately, years later, it still hasn't happened.) Then, much to nobody's surprise who has ever watched one of these monster creature flics, the maneaters all escape. And, because they have already eaten everything inside the fenced-off croc reserve, when somebody leaves the gate open, the crocodiles all crawl over to nearby Clear Lake to feast on unsuspecting college girls, poachers, wake-boarding frat boys, and Wexel Hall mercenaries who mostly stand around stupidly not shooting their guns. (We ee one of the mercenaries inside the belly of the snake with a flashlight after he's swallowed by an anaconda.) 041b061a72
