Still trying to understand how automatic transmissions actually work
Okay this might sound like a silly question but I've been driving automatics for like fifteen years and honestly never really thought about what's going on under the car until my Camry started acting up last week. It's been shifting really rough between second and third gear, kind of jerky like someone's learning to drive stick for the first time. I've been trying to read up online about whether this is something simple like a sensor or maybe the transmission fluid is just old and burnt, but then I fell down this rabbit hole about valve bodies and torque converters and clutch packs and now my head is spinning. I stumbled across this website [https://gearboxrepairsharjah.ae/] that explains some of this stuff and they seem to know what they're talking about, but I'm still not clear on whether a rough shift like mine means the whole thing is doomed or if sometimes it's just an electronic adjustment. Does anyone know if these modern automatics can be reprogrammed or recalibrated or is that just wishful thinking? Trying to figure out if I should prepare myself for a big bill or if there's a chance it's something minor.
